Profile Statement
I am an experienced clinician who bridges psychodynamic therapy with cutting edge training in CBT, DBT, Imago, Coaching and EMDR. I believe that the mind and the body are one entity, that both hold past emotions, traumas and negative experiences that do not resolve with therapy alone . Talk therapy will not reach feelings held in the body, nor will it plum the depths of deeply ingrained maladaptive beliefs about self-worth. EMDR will make the implicit explicit, the unconscious conscious . Only when these repressed traumatic memories are released can a person grow beyond their stuck point. Once the work is done, the sense of self is so positive that all of life changes for the good. I trained in Imago therapy many years ago and continue to work with couples, using EMDR and IFS ( Internal Family Systems ) which add to the richness of skills you will learn. I am also a Certified Hudson Institute Coach, working with corporations, executives and those everyday people who want to fulfill their life visions. I lean heavily on Positive Psychology, an optimistic view of human potential and the power of human connection to change one’s life. I am an innovator, having started one of the the first outpatient eating disorders programs in the DC area in 1980. I maintain an avid interest in helping couples wherein one partner suffers from an eating issues, and also from ADHD which co-occur frequently. There is no one treatment for everyone. I will tailor your therapy to help you bring peace and calm to your relationship so you will feel the safe attachment, trust and passion that will deepen the love and connection you long for.
